I was chatting with a friend. She's the type to attend protests and rallies and go door-to-door collecting signatures for petitions.
I love her passion, but that's not my gift.
I was explaining I desperately wanted to do SOMETHING to help, but I didn't know what or how. She mentioned knowing several people struggling with applications for unemployment and SNAP, and suggested I could help them. So I went to work, with the goal of putting together a simple, one-page "How To" for the application process. Turns out, that's not possible. There is no way to put even the most basic of necessary information for these programs on one-page.
And it made me mad😡
It infuriates me that these processes are so unnecessarily confusing. That the websites spend more time talking about fraud and overpayment than explaining how to qualify or apply. It felt almost intentional; like these websites were inherently designed to deter people from even bothering at all.
Then, I got an idea💡
What if there was a way to eliminate the noise? Remove the bloat, the fearmongering, and the intimidating, overcomplicated websites. Just provide the information a person needs to start the process:
Who qualifies
What you need
How to apply
And #GuidesbyMC was born.
I'll never be the person with a megaphone📣
You won't catch me stirring up trouble (even the good kind) in my neighborhood🚫
Don't ask me to go door-to-door with a petition📜
But I'll gladly navigate these websites to help my neighbors- both near and far. And this journey is just beginning🚀
